Colehill residents stealing grit from Parish Council supplies
GRIT bins provided by Colehill Parish Council are being raided by residents.
Over the last weekend, three incidences were noted where local residents were seen loading grit from Colehill Parish Council grit bins, into private vehicles. When approached, the people involved said they were taking the grit for their driveways as they were slippery.

Councillor Susan Davies, vice chairman of the parish council said: "This is theft and the incidences have been reported to the police."
She added: "Colehill Parish Council provides grit bins and has them filled at the start of each winter season. This grit is for use by residents for roads and public footpaths, not for personal use on driveways. The grit is replenished regularly throughout the winter and it costs the Parish Council £45 for each bin to be refilled."

Mrs Davies added that rock salt, a mixture of salt and grit, can be purchased from any DIY store and costs less than £5 for a large bag. "Residents are responsible for clearing and salting their own driveways; the grit supplied by the Parish Council should not be used for this purpose," she added.
With the cold spell forecast to last for at least another week, the Parish Council fears it could easily find itself with a bill of £1500 to refill all the parish grit bins. The Council is urging residents to report incidents of people taking grit for their own use.
