Cleaner in court after claiming £2,342 benefits
A WOMAN who fraudulently claimed housing and council tax benefits from West Dorset District Council has been prosecuted.
Anita Claridge, 62, of Eddison Avenue, Dorchester, claimed more than £2,300 was given a two-year conditional discharge by Weymouth Magistrates. She paid the full amount before the hearing.
Mrs Claridge had pleaded not guilty to the offence of failing to notify the district council of changes to her circumstances in that she was no longer unemployed.
She had claimed more than £1,790 in housing benefits and £552 in council tax benefits while working as a school cleaner between March 2010 and June 2011.

District council leader Councillor Robert Gould said: "It is vital that anyone claiming benefits informs the council of a change in circumstances immediately."
