CHARLOTTE Hewett, a dazzling young singer from Shaftesbury, took the crowds by storm at last weekend's culmination of the second Shaftesbury Arts Festival.

Following her astonishing performances at the Dorset 2012 Festival in Poundbury last month, Charlotte was again part of the musical programme arranged by the Anonymous Travelling Market.

In Shaftesbury she gave the crowds an Evita moment, singing from the balcony of The Grosvenor hotel in The Commons.

Festival organiser Richard Thomas described her performance as "simply magical" and there were many who heard her, at Shaftesbury as at Poundbury, who compared her - very favourably - with the glamorous Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins.

The Anonymous Travelling Market was a central feature of the festival at the weekend, with its colourful stalls lining Bell Street, and music from Sugarhand Dave & Rob, Southampton Uke Jam, Smokin' Grass and Harpin-On entertaining festival-goers who made full use of the Worley's Cider stall and straw bales.

The new team at The Grosvenor welcomed STM stalls which created a buzz in the hotel courtyard.
