A NEW telephone service is making it easier for Dorset people to get expert advice more quickly.

Dorset's Adviceline covers the county including Poole to ensure people will be able to speak to someone from a Citizens Advice Bureau to get the help they need.

The Adviceline service on 0844 245 1291 is operating between 10am and 4pm every Monday to Friday. Calls will cost 5p per minute from a BT landline. Other providers and calls from mobiles can cost more.

Type Talk users with hearing or speech impairments should call 08444 111 445.

The service allows people to make contact with the CAB when they need help with problems such as employment, debt, housing or benefits issues. Calls will be answered by a representative from one of the county's Bureaux who can make arrangements for the client to see an expert at their nearest CAB.

The Adviceline has been set up by eight Bureaux working together using a rota to provide cover every weekday across Dorset

Daniel Cadisch, manager of the Dorchester Sherborne and District CAB, said: "It means people will be able to speak to someone who can quickly assess what the client needs.

"They might be able to provide the information that's needed in that call or they can arrange for the client to see an expert at their nearest Bureau. And if it is a crisis or emergency we can ensure the right action is taken straight away."

The Adviceline was also welcomed by Tony Molloy, district manager for North and East Dorset.

He said: "The Adviceline means clients can access our service more easily and that's especially important for people who rely on public transport."

A separate telephone service is available for Bournemouth on 08444 111444.

The CAB is a charity that relies on donations and grants for funding.
