Blagging their way to the Beatles

JONNY Kremer, who for decades ran Bus Stop Records in Westbourne, lived in the Bournemouth area during the glory days of 60s pop.

With his best friend Al Stewart, he schmoozed his way backstage at the Gaumont in Westover Road, meeting the still fledgling Beatles when they played at the former cinema for six nights in 1963, in a bill that also included Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers and the Crickets (already sans Buddy Holly).

Now Jonny has written a book about the time, entitled Bournemouth A Go! Go! which is being launched at the Central Library (which is in the Triangle!) next weekend.

The memoir also follows Jonny's role in Al Stewart's journey from beat groups to worldwide success with Year of the Cat. and includes the story The Men from Rickenbacker, when the star-struck teenagers played John Lennon's guitar.

Look back to the Bournemouth music scene of the early 1960s – the time of Zoot Money, Andy Summers, Tony Blackburn, Robert Fripp and Greg Lake.

The launch party is from 1.30 to 3.30 on Saturday 24th November. See if you can blag your way in!
