THE Anonymous Travelling Market - which is a finalist in the Make a Difference Award category - was set up in 2009 to beat the Westminster blues and celebrate the best of the South West. Despite the doom and gloom, Dorset buzzes with colour, creativity and local quirkiness which just about sums up what The ATM is all about.
A travelling market? How does that work? Emma, Rae and their caravan of stalls and entertainers travel from place to place bringing their stallholders in direct contact with the public. The markets take place in beautiful and unusual spots - a place that's open to the public that would like a bit more exposure, a High Street that needs jazzing up or an event that needs that ATM razzmatazz. Wherever The Anonymous Travelling Market happens to be it doesn't stay anonymous for long.
Apart from supporting local businesses and the obvious retail benefits the markets are a hub of networking opportunities. Stallholders crawl out of their caverns, socialise, barter and swap information - vital for creatives working from home – and they are now delighted to be getting paid work for their ATM bands.
Emma and Rae loathe the usual shopping experience. To put the joy back into it they've created a vibrant, social event where an entire day can be spent perusing the stalls, listening to live music, lunch, meeting up with friends, foraging (if The ATM forager is on board) and having fun.
