Annette Brooke MP to stand down at the next General Election
ANNETTE Brooke, who has represented Mid Dorset and North Poole since 2001 announced last week that she will retire at the next election.
She said: "It has been an amazing honour and privilege to represent the constituency for 12 years and I look forward to the next two years before I retire. There are still so many issues I wish to pursue."
Annette received the Women in Public Life Awards for MP of the year in 2010 for her work on children's issues and completed 25 years of public service in 2011. This led to her being awarded an OBE in the 2013 New Year's Honours list for public and political service.
She received her OBE from Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace last week.

She added: "People have known privately for some time that I intended to stand down at the next General Election. I shall be 68 by then which seems to be the right time to retire, especially since my accident last year. I am looking forward to spending more time in Dorset with my family and giving more support to several local children's charities of which I am a patron but for the next two years I shall be working hard in the Constituency and at Westminster. Currently, I am working to improve conditions for people with the debilitating condition ME, participating in an Inquiry into older people and breast cancer, serving on the committee for the Children's and Families Bill and much more."
