AFC Bournemouth defender Tommy Elphick is relieved after discovering a dreadful challenge left him with severe bruising rather than a serious injury.

The 24-year-old was injured following a rash challenge by MK Dons player Ryan Lowe - who was shown a straight red card.

"I really thought I had done something serious. I'm always optimistic and I'm a positive thinker so now I'll be looking to get back a little bit quicker than expected."

Elphick is expected to be out of action for three or four weeks, but is determined to put the injury to the back of his mind.

"I'm always optimistic and I'm a positive thinker so now I'll be looking to get back a little bit quicker than expected" added Elphick.

"It is done, that was last Saturday, and we are looking to Portsmouth this Saturday now so all that's in the back of my head."
