AFC Bournemouth chairman will not rush in appointing next manager

Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell will not rush into appointing the next AFC Bournemouth manager - and is still receiving applications for the role.

Despite the club being linked with a host of potential candidates, Mitchell revealed it is unlikely the club will approach someone already employed by a league club.

Speaking to the club's official website, Mitchell said: "There are lots of people out there who are looking at the job and have shown a desire to come and work with Bournemouth, but it has to suit our budget and it has to suit our expectation of where we want to go.

"The likelihood is that we'll pursue the best possibility of somebody that is between jobs rather than employed.

"Even last night there were applications made to me and again they are recognised names, so there is still people coming in."

Paul Groves was sacked last week after a string of bad results. Mitchell doesn't know when the new manager may be releaveled, but hinted an appointment could be made fairly soon.

"We want to settle it as soon as possible but we don't want to pick the wrong person" added Mitchell.

"You'd like to think we'll have an answer this week or certainly early next week but we don't want to go any further into the season without having a settled manager.

"I've got several meetings planned this week, up until Thursday night, and hopefully by then we might be 70 or 80 per cent there, or maybe even 100 per cent."

AFC Bournemouth slipped into the League One relegation zone after a 1-0 loss against Coventry City on Saturday.
