999 Day at Bournemouth Hospital to help those with a visual impairment to stay
REPRESENTATIVES from Dorset's police and fire services will come together with the medical team at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital's Eye Unit next month to give advice to those with a visual impairment.
The event will be held at 11am on Saturday 21 September in the Eye Unit outpatients department. It will include presentations on a wide range of issues which underpin fire safety and crime prevention, including advice on smoke alarms, dealing with doorstep salespeople and using cash points safely.
Anne-Marie Lacey, senior staff nurse at the Eye Unit, said: "We are holding this event to raise awareness of safety issues for people affected by visual impairment, with an emphasis on promoting personal safety and security both within the home and in the community."
The Dorset Blind Association, Macular Society and the Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired will also be available on the day to offer advice. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available and attendees are encouraged to bring prizes for a raffle.
